Red Light Therapy for Rosacea

FAQ

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Absolutely!  The Soothing Rain™ Light Unit uses LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes) to produce visible spectrum red light at energy levels that are safe even on ultra-sensitive rosacea skin.

How is the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit different from cosmetic lasers or Intense Pulsed Light treatments I’ve seen advertised?

Cosmetic (aesthetic) lasers and Intense Pulsed Light machines use vastly greater energy levels to actually injure your skin by thermolysis—that is, heating the skin until cell damage occurs—to provoke a healing response.

The Soothing Rain™ Light Unit uses biostimultory low-level red light which does not injure the skin or cells.  Rather, the light frequency used stimulates the cellular mechanisms in your skin and face to normalize function, reduce inflammation, and encourage the production of collagen to “rebuild” and rejuvenate the skin.

Is it painful?

No!  The LEDs in the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit emit only gentle wavelengths of light.  Treatments are non-invasive, non-ablative, and there is no downtime afterward.  Close your eyes, relax, and enjoy the break in your day!

Do I need to wear eye protection?

No.  Most people do not need eye protection to use their Soothing Rain™ Light Unit.  You’ll probably want to close your eyes anyway, as this is more relaxing.  Some people may feel more comfortable using eye shields, but this is an individual preference.

If you have a special or rare eye sensitivity, please consult with your doctor before using your Soothing Rain™ Light Unit.

What about blue UV (ultraviolet) light like I’ve seen in some acne lights or other rosacea lights?

The Soothing Rain™ Light Unit DOES NOT USE UV (ultraviolet) light.  It’s safe for sensitive skin and you don’t need special eye protection as you would with a UV light, such as that found in some blue or blue-red acne lights.

How long do treatments take?

It’s recommended that you start with at least 10-15 minutes per day.  The more you use your Soothing Rain™ Light Unit, the faster you’ll see results.  This is just one reason why it’s far better to purchase a Soothing Rain™ Light Unit than to try to manage treatments at a spa or skin clinic.

How often do I need to use it?

Mom was right: Like all good things, consistency is important.

It’s recommended that you use your Soothing Rain™ Light Unit every day, at least at the beginning.  You will notice that the positive effects of your Soothing Rain™ Light Unit will be more apparent the more regularly you use it.  Often, people find they look forward to using their Soothing Rain™ Light Unit, because they get immediate calming of their skin and it’s a chance to relax.

Can I still use other skin products with my Soothing Rain™ Light Unit?

Yes!  You can use whatever you like on your skin in combination with the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit.  You’ll likely find that, over time, your skin is less sensitive to a wider variety of products.

Just remember: for treatment sessions, it’s best if you have nothing on your face that may block the red LED light from reaching your skin.  Moisturizer is generally okay. Some make-up, especially opaque foundation, powders, or some concealers, will lessen the effectiveness of your Soothing Rain™ Light Unit if you are wearing the make-up during treatment sessions.

Can I use my Soothing Rain™ Light Unit along with my medications that cause sun or light sensitivity?

Please consult your doctor if you are taking light-sensitizing medications like antibiotics for acne.  Most medications that caution against increased sensitivity to light exposure refer to light in the UV spectrum.  Because the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit does not produce UV light, there may be no contraindication.  But please consult your doctor if you are on photo-sensitizing medication of any kind before using your Soothing Rain™ Light Unit.

How soon can I expect results?

There are no overnight fixes for most people with rosacea.  Most often, users will find their faces are calmer or paler immediately after treatment sessions.  This is why the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit is designed to be small, portable, and powerful—so you can take it with you if you need it for a quick treatment before an important event.  The more pronounced changes, like healing chronically inflamed and very sensitive skin, will take longer.  Results are progressive; the more you use your Soothing Rain™ Light Unit, the better your rosacea symptoms will be controlled and the better your skin will look.

If it’s portable, why doesn’t it run on batteries?

There are several hundred red LEDs in the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit which provide powerful, yet gentle, coverage and treatment for your entire face.  This is what makes the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit so effective.  It would also drain batteries in a matter of minutes.

How long will my Soothing Rain™ Light Unit last?

The ultra-bright LEDs in the Soothing Rain™ Light Unit are engineered to last for decades of daily treatments—rated to 50,000 hours of life.  If you do the math, that is over 120 years of daily hour-long treatment sessions—essentially a lifetime.
